Daito Ryu and Aikido: Exploring the Birth and Development of Two Martial Arts
This journalistic report traces the origins and evolution of two martial arts: Daito-ryu Aiki Jujutsu founded by Sokaku Takeda and Aikido founded by Morihei Ueshiba. The journey takes us through their birthplaces, training grounds, interviews with successors, and demonstrations, unraveling the distinct footprints of each martial art. Additionally, it compares their techniques and explores the evolution of their respective technologies. This exploration is based on deep martial arts analysis unique to 7th Dan Aikido practitioner Alain Guerrier.

Alain Guerrier
In 1959, Alain Guerrier began studying Aikido under Master Abe in Marseille. He continued his training under Master Nakazono and Master Tamura. In April 1969, he traveled to Japan to meet the founder Morihei Ueshiba but was unable to fulfill this dream due to the founder's critical illness. He spent the next four years in Japan, teaching French at Athénée Français and the Institut Franco-Japonais while training under instructors such as Seigo Yamaguchi, Kisaburo Osawa, Saotome Sensei, and Doshu Kisshomaru Ueshiba at Aikikai Hombu Dojo. Since returning to France, he has been teaching Aikido at Nice University, Frejus, and various other locations. He holds the rank of 7th Dan from Aikikai.
